1. Need for Speed: Carbon (2006)
This game was meant to be a sequel for the Most Wanted and you start your career in a new city and the main goal of the game is to create a crew and regain the bad reputation that you have. The game also features more in depth customization then Most Wanted thanks to the Autosculpt feature. This game is also the first (and last) that was available for Mac OS X.
2. Need for Speed: ProStreet (2007)
This Need for Speed had a new approach, meaning that now you were an legal racer and you were competing in legal races and the cars have real damage that you have to consider. This game puts more emphasis on realistic driving rather than arcade and it also lack a free open world.
3. Need for Speed: Undercover (2008)
EA saw that they screwed things up with ProStreet and made a game that had illegal street racing and cops again, but this time you are playing as an undercover cop trying to bring down illegal racers. To do that you also have to keep an legit appearance and you need to be very credible. The game also featured live cutscenes that had in the main role Maggie Q which you may recognize from the TV show Nikita or from the Divergent Movies.
4. Need for Speed: Shift (2009)
Legal racing is back again and it’s looking better than ever, NFS Shift managing to improve the racing simulation experience and making a very good game that people liked more than the previous ones and praised for it’s graphics and gaming experience overall.
5. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010)
This game is also another masterpiece that EA really nailed and it is highly praised and it even won an E3 award. There is no story, only challenges and you can play either as a cop or a racer. The game does not have any customization options keeping the cars as authentic as possible.
6. Need for Speed: Shift 2: Unleashed (2011)
After seeing how good the first Shift game was, Slightly Mad Studios have released another game that was better from every perspective and improved the first game. It also featured night time races, better tracks and an in-hemlet camera. This game was a masterpiece when it comes to simulation driving.
7. Need for Speed: The Run (2011)
This is the second NFS game that was released in 2011 and this one had more of a story then a career or challenges, and you were competing in a cross country race from San Francisco to New York. This game was also the first game where you were able to control your character and see him out of the car.
8. Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012)
This game is inspired of the 2005 game and it has no story, only a black list consisting of 10 rivals. Also most of the cars are available from the beginning and you also have a lot of challenges to complete such as smashing billboards. The game has car customization options and you also get the very convenient easy drive menu.
9. Need for Speed: Rivals (2013)
This game combines two of the latest releases, Most Wanted and Hot Pursuit creating one of the best games where you can play either as a cop or a racer but with far more options and challenges, better graphics and a great AllDrive menu.
10. Need for Speed (2015)
This is the latest game in the series and it also promises to be the best combining all of the great features from all of the games that were released so far. Meaning that you have to become an Icon by choosing a driving mode which suits you the best to gain more Reputation. The game was released early November for Xbox One and PS4 and early 2016 for PC.
